Missions

CultureBound works with individuals, churches, mission agencies and training organizations all around the world to equip God’s people for effective life and work in unfamiliar cultures and languages.

Our training weaves together current literature and best practices with years of hands-on experience. And, our foundational approaches are not technique or method, but are built on the idea that people are called to healthy relationships with God and with one another.

CultureCourse and LanguageCourse for Adults

CultureCourse topic areas include a panorama of cultural expressions, practice in how to be a self-directed culture learner, biblical foundations for ministry across cultures, and skill building in intercultural communication. LanguageCourse includes topics such as pronunciation, specific skills to build language competency, working with language helpers, and developing your own language learning plan.

Your training begins by introducing perspectives on language and culture followed by real-life practice at using those skills. We mix together Biblical perspectives, cultural insights, self-directed learning concepts, communication principles and a good dose of recognizing your own cultural background.

CultureBound courses mix online, onsite, and on-field training activities to prepare you for life and work with people from a culture different from your own. The mixture of all three training locations is designed to maximize learning while minimizing costs and travel.

Teen’sCourse

Expedition is our Teen’sCourse and is designed to prepare teens ages 13–17 for life in a new culture. The training is biblically-based and combines elements of language acquisition, culture learning, and cultural transition preparation.

The Teen’sCourse parallels CultureBound’s adult CultureCourse and LangaugeCourse onsite trainings. Topics include practical cultural-learning skills, language-acquisition skills, and explores the unique challenges that come with moving overseas as a teenager.

Each concept taught is followed up with a field trip to practice applying the concept in real-life situations. We understand that there are specific and unique challenges and opportunities that teenagers encounter when they move overseas, and we believe that effectively preparing your teen for life in a new culture is critical to a healthy transition.

Children’sCourse

CultureBound’s Children’sCourse is Inside the Toolbox and is designed to prepare children ages 4–12 for life in a new culture. This biblically-based training gives children the tools they need to be proactive in their learning of language and culture.

When your children attend Children’sCourse-“Inside the Toolbox,” they will gain an understanding of culture and learn how to be proactive about learning and respecting a new culture. Through fun activities, field trips, devotionals, crafts, and testimonies from other kids who have lived overseas, they will learn the basics of culture and language-learning and will explore the complexities of moving to a new place.

The children’s program is designed to parallel CultureBound’s adult CultureCourse and LanguageCourse trainings. The children will have the opportunity to learn what their parents are learning in a kid-friendly way! We believe effectively preparing children for life in a new culture is a critical component of a healthy transition to living overseas.

The program includes an activity box that is mailed to your children to prepare them for our onsite training.

Short-Term Workshop

Cultural Awareness for Short-Term Teams — CAST, is a 3-hour workshop preparing teams of youth and adults to effectively serve people from a different culture.

CAST Training prepares your short-term team to work among people from a culture other than their own. In a 3-hour workshop held at your location, we teach practical culture-learning skills in fun and interactive ways.

We believe that teams don’t need to leave their own country to encounter different cultures, and thus provide CAST training for teams both traveling inside and outside their homeland.

For more information or to apply for a Short-Term Workshop, email CAST@culturebound.org.
